Electronic Warfare, Deterrence and Protection

Dominating the Spectrum, Defining the Future

In tomorrow’s battlespace, victory may be secured before the first shot is fired, through silent control of the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS).

Lockheed Martin is building the capabilities to ensure U.S. and allied forces never lose the advantage in this critical, invisible domain.

Imagine having a gun with unlimited rounds. That’s what electronic warfare gives you. It diverts threats at a low-cost through unlimited non-kinetic effects, preserving strategic kinetic fires for high-value targets. Through EW, we can achieve operational and strategic objectives by targeting the enemy’s ability to sense, communicate, decide, and act

What Is Electronic Warfare (EW)?

EW uses electromagnetic energy to disrupt, disable, or destroy an adversary’s ability to use the EMS — which spans radio waves, microwaves, infrared, and visible light. EW is a critical component of modern warfare, enabling military forces to gain a strategic advantage over their adversaries.

By combining intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), cyber operations, EW, and information operations (IO), we deliver integrated capabilities for Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO).

Electronic Warfare Is Divided Into Three Major Areas:

EW-EA

Electronic Attack

Disrupt, deny, degrade, destroy, or deceive
EW-EP

Electronic Protection

Preventing a receiver from being jammed or deceived
EW-ES

Electronic Support

Sensing of the electromagnetic spectrum

Why It Matters

Adversaries rely on the EMS to plan and execute operations. We help friendly forces counter adversaries with:

  • ISR, EW, Cyber and IO convergence to disable enemy systems before and during strikes
  • AI-powered tools to cut through spectral chaos
  • Open architectures that adapt to future threats

Achieving spectrum superiority requires advanced technology, new operational concepts, and deep integration across the joint force — all central to our 21st Century Security® vision.

Investing in the Fight

We are accelerating EMS superiority by:

  • Partnering with commercial innovators
  • Investing in defense-specific EMS capabilities
  • Bringing cutting-edge technology to multi-domain missions
  • Bolstering the critical supply chain elements to meet the demands of the 21st century

Our 50+ years of electronic warfare experience across the intelligence, Department of War, and international customer set helps us deliver affordable, adaptable solutions that evolve with the threat. Our experts give warfighters:

  • Real-time situational awareness
  • Effective C2 in contested environments

Tailored, rapid-response capabilities
